Bangladesh Bank Announces P2P Bangla QR Transfers Effective November 1 Alongside Instant Merchant Settlement
Bangladesh Bank officials brief media representatives on interoperable Bangla QR upgrades and P2P expansion plans at the central bank headquarters.

Bangladesh Bank announced on Wednesday (September 30, 2026) that Peer-to-Peer (P2P) fund transfers via Bangla QR code will formally launch on November 1, enabling individuals to scan codes or upload QR images via mobile apps for instant inter-institutional money transfers.

Speaking at a central bank press conference in Dhaka, Executive Director and Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan revealed that daily Bangla QR transactions surged nearly 3.5 times in 90 days—rising from 100,000 daily transactions worth BDT 28 crore in June to 350,000 daily transactions totaling BDT 143.54 crore currently. To further accelerate adoption across 4 million registered merchants, Bangladesh Bank will mandate instant merchant settlement starting October 1, while abolishing the 1% minimum Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) and setting inter-institutional fees to zero. Furthermore, central bank incentives of 0.10% for acquiring institutions and 0.20% for issuing institutions will apply to transactions up to BDT 2,000 routed through the National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSB). The regulator also established mandatory fast-refund protocols for failed attempts and dedicated hotline resolution (16236) to drive cashless integration across education, healthcare, and transport toll sectors.
