Factory production across Bangladesh has registered a significant rebound following marked improvements in gas and electricity supplies to the industrial sector. According to former BGMEA President S M Fazlul Hoque, many gas-dependent manufacturing units have resumed normal operations following initiative taken by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Data from Petrobangla shows daily gas supplies rose to an average of 2,600 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) between September 22 and 27, reflecting an increase of roughly 300 mmcfd compared to the previous month.
Industry leaders, including Bangladesh Chamber of Industry (BCI) President Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez and former DCCI President Abul Kasem Khan, confirmed that gas pressure and availability have improved by around 70 percent in major industrial hubs like Gazipur. Business stakeholders noted that sustained and uninterrupted energy supply will be crucial for recovering production shortfalls, fully utilizing manufacturing capacity, and boosting exports in key sectors such as readymade garments, textiles, spinning, and dyeing.
