BPC Launches Probe into ৳4,813 Crore Stuck in Troubled Private Banks Amid Bribery and Commission Suspicions
Banking and treasury operations under audit as BPC moves to recover energy sector funds.

The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and its subsidiary companies have a massive ৳4,813.32 crore tied up in fixed deposits across several troubled private banks. To retrieve these funds and investigate potential corruption, BPC has established a seven-member probe committee to audit the deposit placements and determine if personal bribery or illicit commissions influenced the allocations.

The investigation was officially instituted via an office order signed by BPC Secretary Shahina Sultana on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. BPC Director (Finance) Nazneen Parveen has been appointed as the committee convener, with BPC Accounts Manager Md. Al-Amin serving as member secretary. The committee has been directed to submit a comprehensive investigation report to the BPC Chairman within one month.

The probe will examine the procedures, recommendations, and motives behind depositing state energy funds into financially distressed banks under the lure of unusually high interest rates. In addition to pinpointing officials responsible for personal kickbacks or unethical transactions, the committee is tasked with recommending concrete strategies to liquidate the ৳4,813.32 crore Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) and creating a rigorous screening framework for future bank deposit selections.
