Unfair practices and fiduciary negligence by capital market intermediaries inflict severe damage on investor confidence, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Mominul Islam emphasized on Monday.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the distribution of Investor Protection Fund (IPF) assets held at the DSE Tower in Nikunja, the DSE Chairman noted that while price fluctuations are normal, losses stemming from brokerage misconduct are unacceptable. Addresssing cases where five brokerage houses misappropriated client funds and securities, Islam announced that 17,332 out of 17,967 identified affected investors will receive full compensation up to BDT 5 lakh in the initial phase. Remaining balances will be recovered through legal channels coordinated by the DSE, BSEC, and CDBL. BSEC Chairman Khondoker Masud Khan attended as the chief guest alongside DSE Managing Director Nighat Anwar and board members, reaffirming joint regulatory commitments to restore market integrity.
