Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) must adapt to structural shifts in the nation's capital market by transforming into a market-based, competitive, and fully digitized institution.
Speaking as the chief guest at ICB's Golden Jubilee ceremony held at Hotel Purbani in Dhaka on Thursday (October 1, 2026), Finance Minister Chowdhury outlined the necessity of transitioning Bangladesh's retail-heavy capital market into an institution-driven system. He affirmed that the government has discontinued political appointments across the financial sector to foster professional governance. Chowdhury further detailed ongoing capital market reforms led by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), including simplified direct listing processes and international investor engagement following recent consultations with Wall Street asset managers. Financial Institutions Division Secretary Najma Mobarek noted that the government provided BDT 4,000 crore in liquidity support in two tranches to assist ICB in settling high-interest liabilities and restructuring its investment portfolio. BSEC Chairman Masud Khan and ICB Chairman Abu Ahmed also addressed the event, which was chaired by ICB Managing Director Niranjan Chandra Debnath.
