Gas Supply Will Not Be Fully Shut Down, But Reduced for 4 Days Due to FSRU Maintenance: Petrobangla
Offshore LNG regasification infrastructure in Moheshkhali supplying gas to Bangladesh's national grid.

Petrobangla (Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation) has urged consumers not to pay heed to rumors claiming a complete 4-day gas shutdown. In an official press release issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the state energy corporation clarified that gas supply will not be completely cut off, though daily supply will be reduced, leading to potential low pressure in some areas over the next four days.

The temporary reduction is due to routine maintenance work on one of the country's two Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs)—specifically the terminal operated by Summit Group in Moheshkhali. As a result, national daily gas supply will drop by approximately 320 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD), bringing total daily supply down from 2,570 MMCFD to 2,250 MMCFD. Full gas supply is expected to be completely restored by 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

A senior Petrobangla official confirmed that Summit Group initially requested maintenance shutdown starting November 3, which was deferred by one day to November 4. Currently, domestic gas field production has dropped from historical highs of 2,800 MMCFD down to 1,576 MMCFD (as of October 30), forcing heavy reliance on imported LNG handled by Summit and US-based Excelerate Energy. Against a real national demand of 4,000 MMCFD (and authorized customer demand of 5,500 MMCFD), the temporary maintenance will intensify existing pressure constraints across residential and industrial sectors until Saturday afternoon.
