In a major regulatory push to restore public trust in the insurance sector, the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) announced on Sunday (October 4, 2026) the release of BDT 26.36 crore to settle long-pending legitimate insurance claims for 7,641 policyholders across the country.
Under the leadership of IDRA Chairman Mir Nadia Nivin, this third tranche brings the cumulative claims settled through the regulatory intervention to BDT 63.91 crore (BDT 639,139,647) for 16,058 policyholders. The structured clearance drive commenced on September 3, 2026, when IDRA facilitated the first phase disbursement of BDT 14.51 crore to 2,549 life insurance policyholders, followed by a second phase disbursing BDT 23.03 crore to 5,868 policyholders. Unlike the initial phases held directly at IDRA headquarters, the current third phase enables individual insurance companies to disburse funds directly from their corporate offices under close regulatory supervision. IDRA confirmed that claims funding was mobilized by liquidating company assets and security bonds, assuring policyholders that ongoing verification of remaining legitimate unpaid claims will continue in subsequent phases.
