Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Mominul Islam has declared that regardless of systemic reforms implemented, restoring investor confidence remains the primary challenge facing Bangladesh's capital market following past irregularities and operational inefficiencies.
Speaking at a panel discussion during the inauguration of World Investor Week 2026, organized by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday (October 4, 2026), Mominul Islam stressed that rebuilding trust among retail investors is essential to market recovery. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury attended as chief guest, alongside Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Investment and Capital Markets Tanveer Ghani, Financial Institutions Division Secretary Nazma Mobarek, Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) Chairman Mir Nadia Nivin, and BSEC Chairman Masud Khan. Highlighting the proliferation of fraudulent schemes, misleading tips, and deceptive groups across social media platforms, the DSE Chairman emphasized that traditional market surveillance structures are being modernized to monitor digital channels and combat market manipulation, ensuring robust protections for small investors.
