Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) that the World Bank has expressed complete agreement with the Bangladesh government's economic recovery policies and medium-to-long-term development roadmap.
Speaking to journalists in Bangkok following a high-level bilateral meeting with the Managing Director of the World Bank on the sidelines of the WB-IMF Annual Meetings, the Finance Minister stated that international development partners recognize the severe legacy burden inherited by the current administration, compound global economic shocks, and ongoing conflicts affecting energy and food supply chains. Reaffirming the World Bank’s commitment to providing full structural support, Amir Khosru noted that Bangladesh has submitted a formal written proposal outlining a new bilateral Partnership Framework.
Addressing media reports regarding a requested $10 billion additional assistance package, the Finance Minister clarified that no final dollar figure has been locked in, describing ongoing talks as a multi-month consultative process that will continue with follow-up meetings in Dhaka. Meanwhile, during an IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO) side event, the IMF lowered its FY2026-27 GDP growth forecast for Bangladesh to 3.2% (down from 4.3%) with inflation projected at 10.9%, alongside a World Bank growth projection of 3.4%. The Finance Minister responded that while global institutions apply their own analytical models, the government remains confident in achieving its national budgetary inflation and growth targets through structural reforms.
