Journalists formed a human chain wearing shrouds in Netrokona, demanding the conclusion of the trial for the murder of journalist Lutful Zaman Alif Fakir within 90 days. During the program, they also pressed for the submission of the chargesheet within 15 days, the arrest of all accused individuals, and the transfer of the case to a Speedy Trial Tribunal.

The human chain was held on Monday (November 2) around 1:00 PM in front of the District Press Club in the Moktarpara area of Netrokona town.

The program was jointly organized by the Mymensingh Divisional Unit, District Unit, and Mymensingh Divisional Union of Journalists of the Journalist Torture Prevention Cell Bangladesh.

Among those who addressed the human chain were Khairul Alam Rafiq, Chairman of the Journalist Torture Prevention Cell Bangladesh and Editor of Dainiker Protiker Kagoj; Director Mohammad Ali Abir; President Ariful Islam; Executive President Sajib Rajbhar; General Secretary Aminul Islam; Shyamganj Press Club President Md. Al Imran; General Secretary Md. Sakhawat Hossain Mamun; Organizing Secretary Md. Kamran Parves; veteran journalist and former President of Durgapur Press Club Md. Mohan Mia; journalist Md. Speakers stated that the fatal shooting of journalist Alif has not only robbed a family of their loved one, but has also placed the safety of journalists in grave question. Alif used to publish investigative reports on various crimes and irregularities, including cross-border smuggling, they noted, expressing belief that he was murdered precisely because he exposed those involved in such criminal activities. They demanded a fair investigation and swift judicial proceedings, ensuring that none of the perpetrators escape through legal loopholes.

Four primary demands were raised during the human chain: the swift arrest of all accused involved in the murder, the submission of the chargesheet within 15 days, the transfer of the case to a Speedy Trial Tribunal, and the completion of the trial within 90 days to ensure maximum punishment for the culprits. Later, the journalists submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police.

On the night of October 15, journalist Lutful Zaman Alif Fakir was shot dead in the Telonjia area adjacent to Utrail Bazar on the Shyamganj-Birisiri road in Durgapur upazila. He was the Netrokona correspondent for the private television channel Ruposhi Bangla. Additionally, he ran a Facebook page named "Detective Article" on social media, where he published investigative reports on border smuggling and various crimes and irregularities.

In connection with the incident, Alif's wife, Anandita Sangma, filed a murder case with Durgapur Police Station accusing 7 to 8 unidentified individuals. Police have arrested four individuals in the case so far. Most recently, Imran Islam alias Imon and Md. Sabbir Ahmed, who were arrested on Sunday, gave confessional statements under Section 164 before the court. Police reported that their statements identified Tajul Islam as the mastermind behind the murder.
