Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has permanently dismissed 11 teachers, officers, and employees, while demoting three other faculty members following decisions made at its 123rd Syndicate meeting. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shoukat Ali confirmed the development on Thursday afternoon (October 1).

The permanently dismissed individuals include three faculty members—former Associate Professor of Mathematics Mashiur Rahman, Associate Professor of Public Administration Asaduzzaman Mandal (Asad), and Associate Professor of Political Science and former Proctor Shariful Islam—alongside eight officers and staff members.

Their dismissal follows the final verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 regarding the murder of Abu Sayeed, an English department student killed during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

In separate actions based on sexual harassment allegations, Professor Dr. Md. Rashikul Islam of the Statistics Department was demoted to Associate Professor, Associate Professor Dr. Shakibul Islam of the Disaster Science and Management Department to Assistant Professor, and Assistant Professor Md. Shamim Hossain of the Geography and Environmental Science Department to Lecturer. Additionally, the Syndicate unanimously approved renaming the university's under-construction female dormitory as "Begum Khaleda Zia Hall."
