Police have seized 120 sacks of rice under the food-friendly program in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur, and arrested a businessman named Nurul Islam (70) in connection with the incident.
Arrested Nurul Islam is the son of the late Rahim Uddin Mondal from Kalupara village in Bulakipur union of the upazila.
According to police sources, on Monday, Nurul Islam purchased 120 sacks of 30 kg rice each under the food-friendly program from in front of the Bulakipur Union Parishad. Later, he stored the rice in the godown of his own house.
Acting on a tip-off, the Ghoraghat police station forces conducted a raid at his residential godown and seized the rice. Later, the rice was taken to the police station. Nurul Islam was arrested over this incident.
Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mahmud Hasan confirmed the matter, stating that the process of filing a regular case regarding the seized rice is currently underway.
