Following road blockades, brick-batting, and gunfire in Rangamati's Sajek, nearly 3,000 stranded tourists were safely escorted to Khagrachari through a joint initiative by the army and police, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release on Thursday.
The blockade began Thursday morning around Gangaram Bazar, halting traffic on the Sajek-Baghaichhari road. At around 10:00 AM, security forces attempted negotiations, but miscreants threw bricks at around 10:30 AM, prompting police to use batons to disperse the crowd.
Later at 11:00 AM, armed members of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) reportedly fired 30 to 40 rounds at security personnel and tourists, leading the army to return fire and force the armed individuals to flee. No casualties were reported, and all stranded tourists were safely evacuated under security escort.
