Demand for a 5-minute train halt at Chakaria railway station for the benefit of eight upazilas

Economist, banker, and former Managing Director and CEO of Social Islami Bank PLC, Mr. Md. Zafar Alam, alongside conscious citizens and local leaders, have strongly demanded a mandatory 5-minute train halt at the Chakaria railway station.

This initiative aims to ease travel and improve regional communication for nearly 2 million residents across Chakaria, Matamuhuri, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia, Pekua, Lama, Alikadam, parts of Lohagara, and Eidgah. Proponents emphasize that adequate passenger boarding and halting facilities will greatly benefit students, businesspersons, patients, and travelers from the hill tracts and coastal regions, saving time and costs while boosting local trade, tourism, and economic activities.

Local stakeholders have called upon Bangladesh Railway and relevant authorities to swiftly consider this public interest demand to maximize the accessibility and benefits of the railway network.
