A three-year-old child named Oniy Ghosh drowned in a pond in Purbadhala upazila, Netrokona. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday (September 22) around 1:00 PM in the Barha West Para village of Jaria union under the upazila.
The deceased, Oniy Ghosh, was the son of Bikash Ghosh, a resident of the village who serves as the Joint Convener of the Purbadhala Upazila Jubo Dal and General Secretary of the Purbadhala Bazar Footwear Traders Association. According to local and family sources, family members began searching for Oniy after not seeing him for a long time on Tuesday afternoon. At one point, relatives spotted the child floating in the pond in front of the house. He was promptly rescued and rushed to the Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared him dead.
Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the child's death by drowning. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the family and locals. Leaders and activists of the Purbadhala Upazila BNP and its affiliate organizations are also deeply saddened by the tragedy. Upazila BNP Convener Alhaj Abu Taher Talukdar and Jubo Dal Acting Convener M.A. Mansur Khokon Akand expressed profound shock and extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
