600 Banana Trees Felled Over Land Dispute in Roumari

An allegation has surfaced against several individuals, including Shah Jamal and Haidar Ali, for illegally occupying land and chopping down around 600 banana trees in Roumari Upazila, Kurigram. The incident took place at around 2:00 AM on Tuesday in the Baraikandi area under Shaulmari Union. The victim, Safiar Rahman, has filed a written complaint with the Roumari Police Station.

According to complainant Safiar Rahman, a long-standing land dispute existed with Shah Jamal and Haidar Ali. On Tuesday night, Shah Jamal and his associates illegally trespassed onto his 30-decimal land equipped with domestic weapons, cut down approximately 600 Malbhog and Sagar banana trees worth an estimated Tk 3.20 lakh, and plowed the field using a power tiller. He also alleged receiving death threats from the accused group. Meanwhile, accused Haidar Ali denied the allegations, claiming they cut down their own damaged banana trees to sow jute seeds. Roumari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kawsar Ali confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that legal action will be taken following an investigation.
