An opportunistic syndicate in Chougachha, Jashore, allegedly attempted to secure the release of an arrested local Awami League leader by falsely framing him as an active BNP activist in exchange for a hefty bribe. Investigations and official committee documents—signed by Jashore District Awami League General Secretary and former MP Shaheen Chakladar and Chougachha Upazila Awami League leaders—reveal that the accused, Md. Rabiul Islam, is actually listed as member no. 46 on the full executive committee of the No. 10 Narayanpur Union Awami League.
Rabiul, son of the late Wahab Ali from Guatali village, was arrested by Chougachha police during a special raid late on October 1, 2026, over sabotage charges, and subsequently sent to court. Following his arrest, a vested group reportedly secured certificates from local BNP leaders—including Narayanpur Union BNP President Tarikul Islam Dablu and Upazila BNP President MA Salam—falsely claiming Rabiul as a party activist to pressure police. They further fabricated allegations that Chougachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rahman and other officers demanded Tk 5 lakh in bribes.
OC Mamunur Rahman dismissed the bribery and identity-switching allegations as completely false, baseless, and motivated to tarnish the police's image, confirming Rabiul's genuine status as an approved union Awami League committee member. Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Mirazul Islam stated that all evidence regarding the police accusations and the suspect's true political affiliation is currently under review for appropriate legal measures.
