Md. Zakaria Khan (19), an HSC candidate and son of Ruchira Bakery proprietor Abdul Gafur Khan, was brutally stabbed to death in the chest and abdomen by teenage gang members near the Pashu Hospital intersection in Satkhira town while attempting to intervene in a brawl.
The incident occurred around midnight on Friday near Rabiul's tea stall outside the livestock office gate, where a cultural event following a Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal committee introduction program was underway. According to witnesses, tea stall worker Bappi Hasan was assaulted over a bill dispute with gang leader Nahid Hasan Rony and his associates.
When Zakaria stepped in to protect Bappi, Nahid stabbed him multiple times. Zakaria was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 1:00 AM on Friday night.
Police subsequently arrested Muhid Hasan Boni (an 11th-grade Alia Madrassah student and son of Firoz Uddin from Itagachha) early Saturday morning. Satkhira Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Shahidur Rahman confirmed that the body has been sent for autopsy and preparations for filing a formal case are underway.
