Chandanaish Administration Clears Highway Encroachments Following Directives from MP Jasim Uddin Ahmed

Following explicit instructions from Alhajj Jasim Uddin Ahmed, Member of Parliament for Chittagong-14 (Chandanaish–Satkania partial), local administration has launched an intensive anti-encroachment drive to clear illegal structures along the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway corridor in Chandanaish.

Executing the second major drive within eight days, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jhontu Bikash Chakma operated from Thursday morning through noon (October 15, 2026). The operation targeted illegally occupied footpaths and temporary commercial structures around Gachbaria Old College Gate and the adjacent Gachbaria Nityananda Gourachandra Model Government High School market area. The drive was carried out with joint operational support from Chandanaish Municipal staff and Chandanaish Police Station personnel.

This drive follows an earlier eviction operation conducted on October 7. Local residents expressed relief over the clearance, noting that illegal footpath structures built by dishonest commercial operators had long caused chronic traffic congestion and severe pedestrian safety hazards along the arterial highway. Executive Magistrate Jhontu Bikash Chakma reaffirmed that under MP Jasim Uddin's standing orders, eviction drives will continue strictly to ensure public convenience and keep key highway sections permanently free of unauthorized occupation.
