Fostering mutual trust and seamless coordination between government administration and mass media will significantly accelerate public service delivery and administrative accountability, remarked Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Panna Akhtar.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting on Thursday (October 15, 2026) with the newly elected executive committee and election commission members of the Ukhiya Press Club, UNO Panna Akhtar welcomed constructive criticism from journalists to identify administrative shortcomings and improve public governance. The bilateral discussion covered critical regional priorities, including tourism infrastructure development, affordable drug rehabilitation, border security, and law and order management across Rohingya refugee camps.
Detailing regional growth strategies, UNO Panna Akhtar highlighted ongoing master plan initiatives for eco-parks and 5-star hotel infrastructure to boost local employment and government revenue. She urged government agencies, NGOs, and affluent patrons to establish affordable addiction treatment and counseling centers to rehabilitate misled youth before resorting strictly to legal penalties. Addressing security challenges stemming from Ukhiya's border proximity and expansive refugee settlements, she urged increased law enforcement personnel to counter drug smuggling, strictly manage refugee camp perimeters, and halt unauthorized post-dusk movement or illegal housing rentals in local communities. Key attendees included Journalist Union Cox's Bazar President Nurul Islam Helali, Cox's Bazar Press Club General Secretary Momtaz Uddin Bahari, Ukhiya Press Club President Saifur Rahim Shaheen, General Secretary Farooq Ahmad, Senior Journalist Shamsul Haq Sharek, Upazila Engineer Mohammad Touhidul Islam, and Academic Supervisor Badrul Alam.
