After a hiatus of two years, the China-flagged vessel "Fan Zhou-6" directly berthed at the first terminal of Payra Port in Patuakhali at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, carrying five newly purchased modern cargo handling equipment.
The machinery includes two quay gantry cranes with an 80-tonne capacity, two rubber-tyred gantry cranes with a 40-tonne capacity, and a mobile harbour crane with an 80,000-tonne capacity, procured to modernize and accelerate cargo and container handling operations. Measuring 168 meters in length with a 6-meter draft, the vessel departed from China's Pingtan port on September 18.
Port authorities noted that this follows previous direct berthings by mother vessels like MV Zain and MV Da Hong-16 in 2024, as ongoing initiatives focus on dredging the Rabnabad channel and developing Payra into a digitized port.
