
Zakaria Khan (19), an HSC examinee and son of Ruchira Bakery owner Abdul Gafur Khan, was fatally stabbed in Satkhira town while trying to intervene in a brawl involving a teenage gang. The incident took place around 11:30 PM on Friday (October 2) outside Rabiul Islam's tea stall near the main gate of the district livestock office, where a cultural event following a Juba and Chhatra Dal committee introduction meeting was underway. According to witnesses, the altercation started when a group of youths demanded cigarettes, which led to a dispute and the assault of tea stall worker Bappi Hasan.
When Zakaria stepped in to protect Bappi, he was stabbed in the chest and abdomen. He was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:00 AM. Police subsequently detained Muhid Hasan Roni, an Alim student at a local Alia madrasah.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Shahidur Rahman confirmed that the victim's body was sent for autopsy on Saturday morning, and preparations for filing a formal case are underway.
