Compensation cheques were distributed among families affected by ground cracks in their houses across two markets and thirteen villages in the conference room of the Barapukuria Coal Mine area. The distribution event took place on Sunday at 10:30 AM at the coal mine's conference room, chaired by Coal Mine Managing Director Engineer Md. Shah Alam.
Professor Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain MP, Honorable Minister for the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, attended as the chief guest and distributed the cheques. Honorable Member of Parliament for Dinajpur-5 (Parbatipur-Fulbari) A. Z. M. Rezwanul Haque attended as a special guest. Additionally, Petrobangla Chairman (Additional Secretary) Md. Abdul Mannan, Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Zedan Al Musa, and other senior officials of the coal mine were present.
Reports indicate that cheques were distributed as compensation for structural cracks appearing in the homes of residents across fourteen villages located outside the BCMCL influence zone. These villages include North Koat, Chak Madhabpur, Chaupara, Nawab Bazar, South Rasulpur (Small), South Rasulpur (Large), Madhya Durgapur, Coal Mine Bazar, Shahagram, Hamidpur, Bairagi Bazar, Bairam, Jabbarpara, East Jabbarpara, and Kashiadanga. Cracks have continuously developed in the houses of these areas due to long-term coal extraction operations.
Speaking as the chief guest, the minister stated, "Along with national development, the government places the utmost importance on the welfare of people affected by development projects. The Barapukuria Coal Mine is a national asset, but it is our responsibility to ensure that local populations do not suffer while extracting this resource. Today's cheque distribution is part of an ongoing process to ensure fair compensation." Receiving families welcomed the initiative, noting that this assistance will play a crucial role in their rehabilitation and house repairs.
