Allegations of using low-quality bricks have surfaced in a government-funded guidewall construction project in Bhutpara village under Shahidbagh Union of Kaunia Upazila, Rangpur.
Facing local outrage and protests, the Upazila administration ordered the construction work to be suspended on Wednesday afternoon (October 7, 2026). Residents complained that utilizing sub-standard bricks for the critical guidewall created risks of premature collapse, wasting public funds.
The repair initiative had originally commenced following an incident where a fire service vehicle failed to reach a burning house on time due to poor road conditions. Upazila Sub-Assistant Engineer Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the use of substandard materials upon inspecting the site and halted operations until proper quality standards are ensured.
