Police arrested Shakib Hasan Sunny, widely known as "Picchi Sunny" (23)—the kingpin of the infamous "De Lara" teenage gang in Uttara and a former banned Chhatra League leader—on Wednesday night (October 21) around 11:30 PM from the BNS Center area in Sector 7 under Uttara West Police Station.
Authorities noted that Sunny has at least seven cases against him across multiple police stations for drug peddling, violence against women and children, and involvement in attacks on student protesters during the July-August 2024 uprising. He also served as the former cultural secretary of Uttara East Thana Chhatra League under Dhaka North and was previously arrested by RAB-1 with arms in February 2025.
According to police, Sunny operated a vast criminal network across Uttara, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan, and Tongi, engaging in extortion, snatching, and drug cartels while maintaining close ties with local political figures.
Uttara West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur confirmed the arrest, stating that legal proceedings are currently underway.
