To overcome long-standing deprivation and transform the northern hub of Bogura into a prominent center for industry, communication, education, health, and modern urbanization, the government has undertaken an extensive and comprehensive action plan. Speaking as the chief guest on Thursday (October 22, 2026) at a high-level seminar titled "Bogura's Development: Problems, Prospects, and Challenges" held at the Momain Convention Center in Bogura, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, MP, outlined these visionary plans. The event was presided over by Lotan Ekaram, Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin.
The State Minister expressed concern that for nearly two decades, the residents and farmers of Bogura faced severe developmental discrimination despite the district producing a food surplus of approximately Tk 3,500 crore annually. Highlighting that the current government has been in office for only seven months, he assured that while visible results take time, a concrete and pragmatic roadmap has been established for Bogura's holistic progress.
Key infrastructure and communication initiatives include the long-awaited implementation of the Tk 10,570 crore Bogura-Sirajganj Railway project, the construction of the Arafat Rahman Koko Para Sports Village costing around Tk 1,000 crore to elevate local sports, and the finalization of the Bogura Multidimensional Airport.
To enhance urban services, Tk 1,994 crore has already been allocated for the infrastructural development of Bogura City Corporation, alongside a special allocation of Tk 3,500 crore for the district's 13 upazilas and Tk 2,000 crore for municipal projects. Furthermore, administrative processes for establishing Bogura Wasa and an independent Development Authority are in their concluding stages, with work on the BSCIC Industrial Park set to resume shortly.
To ease traffic congestion, major highways are being upgraded from four to six lanes, with an initial allocation of Tk 70 crore dedicated to beautifying the city and clearing gridlocks. Plans also feature a four-lane road beside the Karatoya River and a damping station for environmental and water preservation. In healthcare and higher education, the government is building 151-bed hospitals across all 13 upazilas and transforming Bogura University into a premier center for higher education and research.
Addressing the political context, the State Minister criticized past autocratic regimes from the Fakhruddin-Moeenuddin era through the subsequent fascist administration, emphasizing that the 17 to 20 years of deprivation must be remembered to guide future progress. He urged all party members and citizens to abandon political animosity, embrace unity, and support community initiatives—such as installing rooftop solar panels to combat energy shortages. He also praised the peaceful observance of Sharadiya Durga Puja, reaffirming that the state guarantees safety and equal rights for citizens of all faiths.
Adding to the discussion, Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman stated that Bogura has historically been subjected to vengeful neglect, noting that past hollow promises and fake developments will now be replaced by genuine progress under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's vision. He reminded journalists of their vital role in reporting the truth objectively, assuring that the democratic government fully welcomes fearless and responsible journalism.
Presided over by Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Lotan Ekaram, the seminar featured addresses from Bogura-6 MP Rezaul Karim Badsha, Bogura-3 MP Abdul Muhit Talukder, BNP Media Cell Convener Dr. Mawdud Islam Alamgir Pavel, PIB Director General Farooq Wasif, BNP Chairperson's Adviser Advocate Mahbubur Rahman, Bogura City Administrator M.R. Islam Swadhin, and other distinguished local administrators, academics, and civil society leaders.
