A disaster preparedness and response drill was held at the Belka MC High School ground in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha. The drill was conducted on Monday (September 28) under the initiative of the private development organization SKS Foundation's "School-Led Community Resilience to Disaster and Climate Risk (SLCRDCR)" project, supported by the Muslim Aid UK Bangladesh Field Office and operated by the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
The drill program was inaugurated by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Effat Jahan Tuli, with Belka MC High School Headmaster Md. Ahsan Habib Sarkar presiding over the event. Conducted by Belka Majidpara Girls' High School Headmaster Md. Mannan Akand, the concluding discussion meeting was attended by District Education Officer Md. Ataur Rahman, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam, Assistant District Education Officer Khan Mohammad Saiful Islam, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mashiur Rahman, Upazila Academic Supervisor Md. Belal Hossain, Belka Union Parishad Chairman Md. Ibrahim Khalilullah, Chandipur Union Parishad Chairman Mehedi Mostafa Masum, SKS Foundation Deputy Director Khandaker Zahid Sarwar Sohen, Coordinator Md. Ashraful Alam, Red Crescent Society Training Director Sabina Yasmin, and Muslim Aid UK Bangladesh Field Office Representative Prosenjit Roy, among others.
Additionally, headmasters from 17 project-enrolled upazila institutions, two teachers from each, and ten DRR champions and volunteers were present. During the half-hour drill, the past, traditions, art, and culture of rural Bengal, along with the comprehensive picture during disaster periods, were portrayed. At least 100 workers showcased their respective techniques during the performance. A massive gathering of at least 1,500 people, including students, was observed to enjoy this remarkable drill.
