A mobile court in Pabna's Bera upazila has seized a huge quantity of fake milk and harmful ingredients used to manufacture it during a raid. The operation was conducted from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM on Monday (September 28) at the residence of a couple, Uttam Ghosh and Poly Ghosh, in the Pechakola Ghat area of the upazila.
Poly Ghosh (35) was fined BDT 1,00,000 for her involvement in producing the counterfeit milk. The drive was led by Bera Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Nuren Mayisha Khan, with active assistance from local police personnel.
According to mobile court sources, Uttam Ghosh and his wife Poly Ghosh had been manufacturing adulterated and fake milk at home using chemicals and hazardous materials for a long time. Acting on a tip-off, the administration raided the premises and recovered a large vat of artificial milk. Authorities also seized palm oil, bleaching powder, chemical gel, baking soda, warm whey, a vat of cream, fat-extracted milk, and a blender machine used in the illegal production.
Although the main mastermind, Uttam Ghosh, could not be found during the raid, his wife Poly Ghosh was detained. Upon interrogation, she confessed that she and her husband regularly produced and marketed fake milk using these harmful ingredients. Considering humanitarian aspects—specifically that the accused woman has a minor child and an elderly mother at home—she was penalized with a fine of BDT 1 lakh instead of imprisonment. The upazila administration has stated that such drives will continue to ensure safe food for the public and put a stop to the production and sale of fake milk.
