The Faridpur Journalists Union has strongly condemned and protested the filing of a case against Faridpur Journalists Union President and former Faridpur Press Club Acting President Sheikh Fayez Ahmed.
The protest meeting was held on Friday night at the union office, presided over by Union President Sheikh Fayez Ahmed.
Speeches at the meeting were delivered by Union Vice-President Riyazul Islam Riyaz, General Secretary Aminul Islam Babu, Organizing Secretary SM Sahan, Finance Secretary Khandaker Kamal Hossain, Information and Technology Secretary Monir Hossain Pintu, Office Secretary Md. Ohiduzzaman Molla, and member Muhammad Masudur Rahman Limon, among other journalists.
Speakers at the meeting alleged that the ownership transfer of a local newspaper is currently under legal review at the Deputy Commissioner's office. To divert attention from this ongoing process and socially harass Sheikh Fayez Ahmed, the case has been lodged.
Furthermore, speakers claimed that the case was instigated and orchestrated by an organized mafia circle. They also pointed out that the plaintiff in the case has multiple court convictions related to cheque fraud.
Urging a fair, neutral, and transparent investigation into the case filed against the journalist, speakers called upon the administration and relevant authorities to remain vigilant so that no influential quarter can manipulate or derail the inquiry.
The meeting concluded with a demand to put an immediate end to the harassment of journalists performing their professional duties and to resolve the matter through lawful means.
