The voluntary organization 'Banglar Chokh' is continuing its ongoing initiatives to maintain a pleasant environment in graveyards and prevent the proliferation of insects. Over the past two years, volunteers of the organization have repeatedly implemented this cleanup drive across 17 graveyards under the slogan: "We do not want jungles in graveyards—we clean them with respect."
On Saturday morning (September 19), local organizer and Freedom Fighter Lokman Hossain Mondal and 'Banglar Chokh' Founding Chairman Tanvir Hossain Ashrafy jointly inaugurated the cleanliness campaign at the Robertsonpur Mondalpara graveyard in the city, with support from the Tanvir Welfare Association.
The inauguration was attended by senior journalist Monabbar Hossain Mona, local social workers Abdus Salam Belal, Mohammad Zahid Hossain, Siddique Ahmed, Azizul Haque Babu, Moniruzzaman Prince, along with Banglar Chokh Metropolitan President Abu Jafar Liton and General Secretary Omar Faruk.
As part of the cleaning activities, volunteers cleared weeds and garbage from the graveyard premises and sprayed insect repellents. Local children, adolescents, and youths enthusiastically participated in the drive, earning praise from neighborhood residents and various social organizations.
Other organizers of Banglar Chokh, including Meraj Alim Riyaz, Shahidul Islam Rapid, Enamul Haque Sujan, Dulal Hossain, Sabbir Ahmed, Zakir Hossain, and ABM Mashiur Rahman, were also present.
Local administration and public representatives have assured their cooperation for this ongoing initiative. Observers note that such socially responsible endeavors serve as an exemplary model for other organizations in Rangpur.
Local resident Abdus Salam remarked, "Walking through the graveyards used to be very difficult earlier. Now it looks much cleaner. Banglar Chokh has cleaned this graveyard before, and today they returned to clear the newly grown weeds and bushes. This is a truly commendable effort."
Tanvir Hossain Ashrafy, Founding Chairman of 'Banglar Chokh', said, "The graveyard is the final resting place for every Muslim. Keeping its environment clean and tidy is our moral responsibility. The Mondalpara graveyard had turned into a sort of jungle overgrown with weeds, fostering mosquitoes and other pests. This is our humble effort to keep the graveyard clean."
He added, "A graveyard is not only for the departed but also a place of spiritual connection for the living. Our goal is to transform every graveyard in Rangpur into a clean and serene environment. Over the last two years, we have conducted multiple cleanup drives in 17 graveyards across various areas, including the Nurpur Bari graveyard, Dhap, Chenarpara, Lalkuthi, Chhotto Nurpur, Shalban, Balapara Railgate, and Babukhan. This cleaning campaign will continue."
