In Chapainawabganj, a group of farmers attempted to snatch fertilizer from a dealer's warehouse after failing to receive their required supply. The incident occurred on Saturday (October 11) at noon at Messrs Ekta Enterprise in Debinagar Union under Sadar Upazila. Ansar members and police later arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.
According to local sources, farmers gathered at the dealer's warehouse to collect fertilizer. They alleged that they were not receiving fertilizer according to their demand. Receiving less fertilizer than needed led to growing anger and discontent among the farmers. At one point, several farmers tried to take fertilizer away from the warehouse, and some even managed to carry bags off. Law enforcement personnel then chased the crowd, causing the farmers to drop the fertilizer bags and flee.
Mozammel Hossain, manager of Messrs Ekta Enterprise, stated that fertilizer distribution had been ongoing since the morning. However, due to heavy demand, it was not possible to meet everyone's expectations. Outraged by this, a few farmers attempted to seize fertilizer. Police and Ansar members intervened to restore order, and he claimed no one managed to take fertilizer away as they dropped the sacks before leaving.
However, Md. Parvez Ali, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of the Upazila Agriculture Department in charge of Debinagar Union, reported that a group of farmers took at least 8 to 10 bags of fertilizer. The exact count is yet to be determined, while many others fled leaving their bags behind.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Sunain Bin Zaman mentioned that heated arguments broke out among farmers during distribution, leading to a temporary suspension of the process. He maintained that while farmers tried to snatch the fertilizer, none ultimately succeeded in taking any away.
