Allegations of ragging have resurfaced at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), leaving a female freshman hospitalized after senior students subjected juniors to harassment on Thursday (October 8, 2026) evening.

According to the victims, several second-year female students—including Samiha, Urmi, Nishat, Shreya, Mim, Maria, Afia, Farjana, and Ifti—called first-year students of the Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) department, including Anika Afrin, Asha, Jhuma, Masuma, Faria, Sathi, and Jannat, to room 1035 of Gonotontro Hall under the pretext of a picnic.

Instead, the victims were subjected to verbal abuse, invasive questioning about their personal lives and interactions with male students, forced to mimic quadrupeds, and had their mobile phones searched. During the ordeal, freshman Jhuma fell ill, and as the ragging continued, Anika Afrin suffered severe physical distress marked by breathing difficulties and was rushed to Assort Hospital in the Mujahid Club area of Pabna town.

University Proctor Professor Dr. Kamruzzaman Khan and Student Adviser Professor Dr. Rashedul Haq visited Anika in the hospital, with the proctor asserting that the administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward ragging and will take immediate disciplinary action upon formal investigation.
