A fishing cat tranquilized and rescued in Chandanaish on Thursday.

A fishing cat was rescued from the Dhanar Para Kashem Master Bari area, located west of East Satbaria Multipurpose High School in the Satbaria Union of Chandanaish Upazila, Chattogram.On Thursday (October 8), local residents spotted the fishing cat and promptly notified the upazila administration and the Forest Department.Under the overall guidance of Chandanaish Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Abdur Rahman, a team from Cox's Bazar Dulahazara Safari Park—coordinated by Assistant Conservator of Forests Md. Delowar Hossain of Chattogram South Forest Division and Barguni Beat Officer Md. Rahmat Ali—tranquilized the wild cat, safely rescuing it unharmed before transporting it to the safari park.Regarding the rescue, Barguni Beat Officer Md. Rahmat Ali stated that the fishing cat was tranquilized to ensure a safe operation. He added that following a thorough medical checkup, it will be released at Cox's Bazar Dulahazara Safari Park.He further emphasized that the fishing cat is an important wildlife species in Bangladesh. If a fishing cat or its cubs are sighted in any area, locals should avoid capturing, frightening, or relocating them. Reporting the sighting directly to the local Forest Department remains the safest approach.
