Allegations of attempting to forcibly occupy long-possessed land have surfaced against Rashedul Haq and his associates in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar. In connection with the incident, Saiful Islam, son of the late Soltan Ahmad, has submitted a written complaint to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station, requesting necessary legal action to prevent the land grab attempt.
According to the complaint, Saiful Islam and his uncles have been in peaceful possession of approximately 40 Kora of land under Diara Khatian No. 488, Diara Plot No. 175 in the Rampur area of Chakaria Upazila through a family partition for over 50 years. The dispute regarding ownership and possession arose concerning Diara Plot Nos. 175 and 176 under Diara Khatian No. 488.
In his complaint, Saiful Islam asserted, "I am the owner through inheritance and purchase... My uncle Nurul Islam was in possession of Diara Plot No. 176. When he offered to sell the land in Plot No. 176, Rashedul Haq agreed and completed the registration."
However, it is alleged that Rashedul Haq fraudulently registered Diara Plot No. 175—which is under Saiful Islam's possession—instead of Plot No. 176 in the deed document. As a result, Rashedul Haq has reportedly been attempting to take possession of the disputed land in Diara Plot No. 175.
The complaint further states that Saiful Islam, as the plaintiff, filed a Hakshafi Misc Case (No. 26/2026) against Rashedul Haq in the Senior Civil Judge Court of Chakaria. Subsequently, when the land dispute emerged and Nurul Islam became aware of the situation, Nurul Islam (the seller of the land) sent a legal notice via registered mail to Rashedul Haq on September 16, 2026, without Saiful Islam's prior knowledge. Hoping to resolve the dispute and address the ongoing lawsuit filed by Saiful Islam, Nurul Islam urged Rashedul Haq to rectify the deed and submitted a written objection to the court.
Saiful Islam alleged that despite the land being in his family's possession through inheritance and purchase for over 40 years, and despite the case remaining pending in court, Rashedul Islam and his armed associates continue their attempts to forcibly grab the disputed land. The application further highlights that the group is attempting to illegally construct structures on top of Saiful's existing installations under the cover of night.
Saiful Islam stated that the situation has sparked tension in the area, giving rise to fears of an untoward incident at any moment. He urged the administration to investigate the matter and take necessary legal steps to halt the unauthorized entry and land grab attempt.
Attempts to reach the accused, Rashedul Haq, via telephone for his comments were unsuccessful.
Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman stated that legal action will be taken subject to an investigation into the complaint.
