The fourth shipment of uranium for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has arrived at the project site from Russia, intended for the second unit. Previously, shipments included one for the first unit and earlier batches for the second unit.

On Saturday (October 31) at 7:17 AM, three specialized lorries carrying the uranium reached the project site under the direct supervision of the army and strict security provided by other law enforcement agencies.

Asadur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, confirmed this information.

With this arrival, a total of four shipments have now reached the project site, including one additional shipment for the first unit and three shipments for the second unit.

Previously, Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom stated that a total of 163 uranium assemblies in seven cargo flights for the second unit, and an additional 48 uranium assemblies in two cargo flights for refueling the first unit, are planned to be brought to Bangladesh. In total, this nuclear fuel will arrive in nine shipments.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, built with Russian technology, features two VVER-1200 model units. Among them, the "Power Startup Stage-C" activities have commenced for the first unit.

Earlier on Thursday (October 29), the Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) approved the initiation of Stage-C activities for the first unit.

During Stage-C, the reactor's capacity will be progressively increased to test the functionality of various equipment, turbine-generators, operational systems, and safety measures. Once necessary tests are successfully completed, the first unit's generator will be connected to the national power grid, a process known as "synchronization."

If everything proceeds according to plan, there is a target to experimentally add about 300 megawatts of electricity from the first unit to the national grid in November. However, these activities will be completed subject to regulatory conditions and necessary approvals.
