Hundreds of local residents staged a human chain and blocked the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway on Saturday afternoon (October 10, 2026) under the banner of the general people of greater Dohazari, demanding that the region be declared a full-fledged upazila.

The blockade created massive traffic congestion on both sides, causing severe suffering for travelers. Teachers, students, business owners, professionals, and political activists participated with banners and placards. Speakers emphasized Dohazari's geographical, demographic, and commercial significance, warning that if it is not granted upazila status, they will completely paralyze the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway and Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway. Organizers announced a series of strict continuous programs, including torch processions, black flag marches, road and rail blockades, and hunger strikes, protesting a recent local government division letter seeking divisional commissioner's opinion on forming an upazila excluding Dohazari municipality and Dhopachhari union—a move locals termed discriminatory and contradictory to prior NICAR decisions.
