Following the directives of Chattogram-14 (Chandanaish-Satkania partial) Member of Parliament Alhaj Jashim Uddin Ahmed, the upazila administration conducted an eviction drive on Wednesday morning (October 7, 2026) to clear illegal structures along the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway in the Gachbaria Old College Gate and Khanhat areas.

Led by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jhontu Bikash Chakma, alongside South Chattogram Road Division Surveyor Subhashish Chakma and local officials, the mobile court demolished illegal encroachments and fined 7 individuals a total of Tk 19,500 under Section 82(1) of the Road Transport Act, 2018 for occupying the road for business.

Meanwhile, traders operating illegal setups in front of the school market of Gachbaria Nityananda Gourachandra Model Government High School pledged to remove them voluntarily within two days, bringing relief to locals who had been facing traffic congestion and increased accident risks.
