Product import and export operations between India and Bangladesh resumed at the Hilli land port in Dinajpur after a continuous eight-day shutdown due to the holy Durga Puja festival and weekend holidays. Port operations recommenced on Saturday (October 24) at 12:15 PM, bringing back hustle and bustle to the port area.

The matter was confirmed on Saturday afternoon by Shaheenur Islam Mandal, General Secretary of the Hilli Customs C&F Agents Association. He stated that import and export of goods from India had been suspended since October 16 due to Durga Puja. Following the eight-day closure inclusive of weekend holidays, commercial activities restarted at noon on Saturday.

He further noted that following the resumption, freight trucks from India began entering the port, from which goods are being unloaded, loaded onto domestic trucks, and dispatched to various parts of the country, restoring normal port operations.

Meanwhile, while import and export activities were halted, passenger movement through the Hilli Immigration Checkpost remained uninterrupted. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Hilli Immigration Checkpost Zakaria stated that although trade was paused for Durga Puja, passenger crossings through the immigration checkpost continued without closure, with normal movement observed between citizens of both countries on Saturday.
