
The International Day of Older Persons 2026 was observed in Osmani Nagar, Sylhet, through various programs themed around fresh perspectives on longevity. Organised jointly by the Upazila Administration and the Upazila Social Services Office, a discussion meeting and awareness initiative took place at the upazila premises on Thursday (October 1) at 11:00 AM.
Presided over by Upazila Social Services Officer Jayati Datta, speakers emphasized that older citizens are invaluable assets to families, society, and the nation. They highlighted the importance of ensuring dignity, rights, social security, and healthy living in old age while encouraging moral and religious education alongside academic learning to foster respect for parents and elders. Concurrently, a seminar on the significance of the Social Services Department's stipend program for integrating children with disabilities into mainstream education was also held at the venue.
