Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Nayeb-e-Ameer and Rangpur-2 MP ATM Azharul Islam announced that the party's MPs will take to the streets alongside Parliament to address long-standing economic deprivation in the Rangpur division.

Speaking at a press conference organized under the banner of the Rangpur Division Development Forum at the party's regional office at Shapla Chattar in Rangpur on Saturday noon (October 3), he put forward 13 key development demands—including the swift implementation of the Teesta Mega Project, the modernization of Saidpur Airport, the construction of a second Jamuna bridge, and the elevation of Rangpur Medical College into a university—while also emphasizing the enforcement of the July National Charter and referendum mandate.

The press conference was attended by Jamaat MPs representing various constituencies across Rangpur division, including Nilphamari-1 MP Abdus Sattar, Dinajpur leaders, and Rangpur-3 MP Mahbubur Rahman Belal, alongside Rangpur Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer ATM Azam Khan. Azharul Islam stressed that backward regions require equitable, needs-based special allocations rather than standard funding to overcome historical discrimination.

He warned that the government must not back down from the Teesta project due to foreign pressure, criticized past corruption and money laundering, and stated that if political reforms and the July charter implementation face resistance, they will mobilize the public for street movements. He also condemned the arrest of former MP Freedom Fighter Akhtaruzzaman, clarifying his affiliation as an associate member of Jamaat.
