Stating that Jamaat-e-Islami is known as a politically reckless party, Prime's Political Assistant Rashed Khan has alleged that Jamaat is systematically plotting against the government through its ongoing long march.
He made these remarks on Friday morning (September 18) while speaking to journalists after visiting Gate No. 1 of Begum Rokeya University, the martyrdom site of July uprising hero Abu Sayed.
Rashed Khan noted that the government has completed seven months in office, and its performance over the first six months has been highly praised by the public. However, he criticized the decision to launch an ultimate program like a long march against a young administration. Pointing out that Jamaat's Ameer had announced a movement to topple the government starting December—coinciding with ousted premier Sheikh Hasina's desire to return—he questioned whether Jamaat and the Awami League were once again conspiring together against democratic stability, much like their alliance in 1996.
He warned that Jamaat will not benefit if the Awami League returns, adding that former regime figures are attempting to exploit reckless street agitation to pave their way back. Urging the 11-party alliance to rethink public convenience, he remarked that blocking roads with a long march causes immense public suffering and fuel wastage, effectively acting as non-cooperation with state management and giving the Awami League an opening to destabilize the environment.
While noting that the long march is irrational, he affirmed that because the government and the BNP respect dissent, administrative authorities have maintained a watchful stance while providing overall security cooperation.
District Council Administrator and District BNP Convener Saiful Islam, Senior BNP Members Fazlur Rahman Badal and Liton Parvez, University Proctor Dr. Ferdous Rahman, and university Chhatra Dal President Rafael Imtiaz Yamin were present, among others.
Earlier in the day, Rashed Khan visited the Rangpur Medical College Hospital to review healthcare services, interacting with officials, doctors, and patients at the burn unit accompanied by College Principal Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain and Hospital Director Brigadier General Ashikur Rahman.
