COX'S BAZAR — Windows down, sea breeze in: the extended Marine Drive to Teknaf opens this winter, connecting 80km of unbroken beach — the longest in the world — by a single scenic highway.
The Tk 1,200-crore extension includes 12 viewing decks, cyclone-resilient bridges and a dedicated cycling lane. Beach umbrella clusters at Shamlapur and Baharchhara are already booking out for December.
'Earlier tourists never crossed Himchhari. Now Teknaf's fishermen will sell grilled fish to Dhaka families,' said tour operator Jashim Uddin. Environmentalists won strict conditions: no construction within 300m of turtle nesting zones.
