A devastating late-night fire gutted 22 rooms across two colonies and six shops in Kaliakair, Gazipur. The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Thursday (September 24) in the Harinhati area of the upazila.

According to locals, the fire suddenly originated in a colony in the Harinhati area and quickly spread to surrounding rooms and shops, eventually engulfing an adjacent colony and causing widespread panic. Residents living in Mondal Market and the colonies belonging to Aminul Islam and Russell Ahmed rushed out to safety, though many could not salvage their belongings due to the rapid spread of the flames.

Local residents initially attempted to put out the fire before notifying the Fire Service. Firefighters rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control after about two hours of frantic effort. While the extent of the damage and the exact cause of the fire—whether from an electrical short circuit or other factors—could not be immediately determined and are currently under investigation, locals reported massive losses of household goods, furniture, and shop merchandise. No casualties have been confirmed so far.
