Police have successfully identified the unidentified body found stuffed inside a blue plastic drum in the Begunbari area of Mymensingh city. The deceased was identified as Niranjan Chandra Sutradhar (50), who worked as a jewelry artisan. On Thursday (September 24) afternoon, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, Md. Shibirul Islam, confirmed the identification.
According to police, Niranjan Chandra was the son of Ramendra Chandra Sutradhar from Trishal upazila, and he had been living with his family in a rented house near the Mymensingh Stadium area. Earlier on Wednesday morning, locals spotted a plastic drum floating in the canal water near a sluice gate in the Begunbari area and informed the police. Upon opening the drum, police recovered the mutilated body of the missing person.
Kotwali Model Police Station OC Md. Shibirul Islam stated that there were multiple sharp weapon injury marks on the head and chest of the deceased. Police suspect that he was brutally hacked to death elsewhere, and his body was put inside a drum and floated in the water to conceal the crime. He further mentioned that the body has been handed over to relatives following the autopsy process, and multiple police teams have launched operations to unravel the mystery behind the murder and arrest those involved. A case preparation is underway at the police station.
