A consultative meeting between the Pirojpur District Hospital authorities and representatives of the District Development Facilitating Citizens' Council was held to address the ongoing dengue situation, hospital cleanliness, and the enhancement of healthcare services. The meeting took place on Monday morning (September 21) at the office of the District Hospital Superintendent.
Discussions centered on several critical issues, including ward cleanliness, the quality of patient meals, drainage systems, physician and manpower shortages, actions against brokers and middlemen, restrictions on excessive visitors accompanying patients, and the prompt operationalization of the new building's elevator. It was noted during the meeting that despite being a 100-bed facility, the district hospital is currently accommodating approximately 350 patients, placing severe pressure on the existing medical staff and resources.
Following the meeting, representatives inspected various wards and service units of the hospital. Key attendees included Civil Surgeon and District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman, Assistant Director Dr. Shishir Ranjan Adhikari, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Md. Nizam Uddin Ahmed, District Development Facilitating Citizens' Council General Secretary and District Anti-Corruption Committee President Senior Journalist Md. Moniruzzaman Nasim Ali, retired Vice-Principal Md. Lutfor Rahman, Sujon Vice-President Afzal Hossain Lavlu, The Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice-President Mehedi Hasan, and Positive Pirojpur President Sergeant (Retd.) Md. Habibur Rahman, among others.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman assured that adequate medicines, saline, and free dengue antigen test kits are stocked in the district headquarters hospital and upazila health complexes, with treatments provided completely free of cost under government management. Emphasizing a comprehensive approach, he stated that controlling dengue requires more than just treating patients; it demands coordinated efforts to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, maintain a clean environment, and raise public awareness. The Civil Surgeon further revealed that as of September 21 this year, 2,564 dengue cases have been recorded in Pirojpur, out of which 2,400 patients have recovered and been discharged, while 163 are currently undergoing treatment. Tragically, the district has also witnessed fatalities due to the mosquito-borne disease.
