A mobile court in Faridpur has sentenced Md. Bayazid Hossain Shahed (40), Senior Joint Convener of the Faridpur district unit of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), to six months of simple imprisonment and fined him Tk 10,000 for illegally manufacturing and storing expired medicines. Later, he was sent to the Faridpur District Jail.
The district administration conducted a drive on Tuesday evening (September 22) at "Messrs Janata Laboratories," a factory owned by the NCP leader located in the Goalchamot Molla Bari Road area of Faridpur town.
The drive was led by Insana Tanzin Eko, Executive Magistrate from the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The convicted NCP leader, Md. Bayazid Hossain, is the son of Habibur Rahman from Alfadanga upazila in Faridpur, though he currently resides in the Goalchamot area of Faridpur town.
According to the mobile court sources, Bayazid has been running this illegal factory since September 2022. During the raid, the factory was found manufacturing various Ayurvedic medicines, including baby gel and different types of adult stimulants.
Confirming the truth of the incident, Assistant Commissioner Insana Tanzin Eko stated that the drive was conducted due to the violation of Section 6/1 of the Essential Commodities Control Act of 1956. A large quantity of illegal medicines was recovered from his factory.
Regarding this matter, Saif Hasan Khan, Member Secretary of the Faridpur District National Citizens' Party (NCP), said, "We have no compromise with any kind of wrongdoing. If anyone from our party commits a crime, organizational action will definitely be taken against them." He added that he would gather information and report the matter to the central committee.
