A seven-month pregnant woman named Tania (25) was allegedly assaulted and kicked in the stomach by several individuals, including Sohag (30), Al-Mamun (26), and Shawon (40), following a vehicle-side dispute on Saturday night (August 26) in the Munshibari Stand area of Chakamaiya union, Kalapara upazila, Patuakhali. According to family and eyewitnesses, when Tania's husband, Habib Akon, was attacked while taking his wife to a doctor, Tania tried to protect him and was brutally beaten, after which the couple was detained at the scene for two hours. Upon being rescued by local dignitaries and taken to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, Tania gave birth prematurely, but the newborn passed away shortly afterward despite medical attempts to save it. Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam stated that police were dispatched to the hospital and legal action will be taken upon receiving a formal complaint from the victim's family.
