Tofael Hossain (35), a field worker for the non-governmental development organization "Osaka," was brutally beaten while attempting to collect installment and service charge payments in Ishwardi. The incident took place on Sunday evening (September 27, 2026) in Kharerdair village under Salimpur union of Ishwardi upazila.
According to Osaka and police sources, Tofael Hossain had gone to collect dues from Nila Khatun, wife of loan recipient Rabiul Pramanik, in accordance with agreement terms. Suddenly, Nila Khatun's husband Rabiul, their two sons Nur Islam and Hridoy, along with Anisar, turned aggressively on the field worker. Following a brief argument, they beat him indiscriminately with iron rods, GI pipes, and wooden sticks, causing severe head injuries and bruises across his body. The attackers snatched Tk 1,54,700 in cash from his pocket, along with necessary documents, an Android mobile phone, and his motorcycle. Osaka Deputy Manager Md. Shahin Alam stated that the attack was orchestrated to avoid paying back a recently disbursed loan of Tk 50,000.
Upon receiving news of the attack, fellow Osaka colleagues rescued Tofael and admitted him to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where he is currently receiving treatment. A formal complaint has been filed at the Ishwardi Police Station. When asked about the incident, Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Ashadur Rahman confirmed that an FIR has been received, police were dispatched immediately upon notification, and the snatched motorcycle has been recovered through a raid. However, he noted that the claim regarding the cash robbery is under investigation to verify the facts, and legal proceedings are actively underway.
