A press conference was held in Sherpur demanding protection against alleged land grabber and local political figure Solaiman Molla and his associates, as well as justice for the destruction of a fruiting banana plantation.

The conference took place at the Nirjhor Community Center in the Khorompur area of Sherpur town on Thursday afternoon (October 1), with Sarwar Jahan reading a written statement on behalf of his affected younger brother, Araf Al Behesti Haq Rinku.

According to the written statement, Solaiman Molla and his associates attacked Rinku's 30-decimal property in West Bilbhorot village under Rani Shimul Union in Sreebardi Upazila on the night of September 23. Armed with domestic weapons, the group allegedly chopped down around 400 banana trees and damaged intercrops valued at thousands of taka after Rinku refused to pay extortion demands. Family members were also reportedly assaulted during the incident. Although police initially arrested two suspects following intervention by the Superintendent of Police, all accused individuals subsequently obtained bail and have allegedly been issuing death, abduction, and property destruction threats to the family, forcing them to flee their residence.
