PUST Expels 7 Students and Fines 2 Over Severe Ragging Incident Sent Freshman to ICU
Pabna University of Science and Technology administrative building, where the Regents Board finalized academic expulsions under decision 77.20.

Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) administration has expelled seven senior students for up to two years and fined two others over a severe ragging incident that caused a freshman student to fall critically ill and require emergency hospitalization.

The disciplinary action was finalized at the 77th meeting of the university's Regents Board following the recommendation of a three-member investigation committee and the university discipline board (Decision No. 77.20). PUST Proctor and Investigation Committee Member-Secretary Dr. Kamruzzaman Khan confirmed the disciplinary order on Thursday (October 15, 2026).

The punitive measures stem from a July 21 incident where senior students summoned freshers to an off-campus residential mess near the Bangla Clinic area and subjected them to severe mental and physical harassment. During the ordeal, Mushfiqur Rahman Tuhin, a Pharmacy Department freshman (2025–26 session), collapsed under extreme trauma. He was initially rushed to Pabna Sadar Hospital before being transferred late at night to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for emergency care. Under the board's decision, Pharmacy student Md. Nazmus Sakib was expelled for two academic years. Six other students—Zahid Hossain Sarkar, Miskat Jahan Mushfiq, Yunus Hossain Hirat, Saidur Rahman Sifat, Sanowar Hossain Tanim, and Ishtiaq Ahmed Ifti (Physics)—were expelled for one academic year. In addition, Tamanna Tajmim Tonni and Sohanur Rahman Sifat were fined Tk 10,000 and Tk 5,000 respectively. All penalized students must submit formal undertakings signed by their parents within seven working days.
